In this episode, Dr. Kacey dives into something many women don’t realize until much later:

The cost of waiting when it comes to your health.

Not in a fear-based way—
but in a clear, honest way.

Because when symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, and hormone shifts are ignored or brushed aside, they don’t usually stay the same… they compound.

If you’ve ever:

  •  Pushed through your symptoms thinking they’ll pass
  •  Put your health on the back burner while taking care of everything else
  •  Felt like you’ll “deal with it later”

This episode will help you understand why early, supportive action matters—and what that can look like without overwhelm.

Because when you begin supporting your metabolism, hormones, and brain together,
you’re not just reacting to symptoms…
you’re creating a foundation for long-term energy, clarity, and independence.

Hey there, wellness warriors. Welcome to the Anchor to Wellness Show, your compass in the sea of holistic health. I'm Casey Wallace, and I'm your passionate advocate for vibrant well-being. And after witnessing countless patients caught in the cycle of sick care model, I became really disenchanted with the conventional healthcare system. It's a system where people aren't truly getting better, they're just simply managing symptoms. But I refuse to accept this as the norm, and I'm determined to shift the paradigm from sick care to well care. I have embarked on a journey into the realms of functional medicine and holistic health. And in each of these episodes, we will dive deep into the latest research, debunking myths, and unlocking the secrets to optimal wellness. From brain health to hormone balance, we'll cover it all with a blend of science, soul, and a dash of controversy. Together, we're making waves to reclaim control of our health destiny and anchor ourselves to wellness. So whether you're seeking clarity on brain fog or ready to reclaim your vitality, you're in the right place. So let's make waves and set sail towards a life anchored and well. What is procrastination really costing you? When it comes to your health, the price of inaction is so much higher than you might think. So think about things like financially, emotionally, physically. So many people tell themselves they'll just start tomorrow or they'll deal with these nagging symptoms later. But let me ask you, how many tomorrows do you have to waste? What happens when later turns into a crisis? In this episode, we are going to uncover the hidden cost of putting your health on the back burner. From the financial burden of chronic illness to the emotional toll it takes on you and your loved ones, and even the physical effects of waiting too long to address your symptoms. Procrastination can be more destructive than you realize. My goal is to help you see that small, consistent actions today can prevent massive consequences tomorrow. Cognitive decline, chronic illness, and the emotional weight of poor health don't just appear overnight. They build over years of ignoring the signs and putting off the work. The truth is your future health is being written by the choices you make today. So let's talk about why taking action now is one of the most powerful decisions you can make for yourself, for your loved ones, and for your future. When we delay taking action on our health, the costs aren't always immediately visible, but they're there, quietly building. Physical symptoms that seem minor at first, like even just some fatigue, a little bit there and here, or brain fog, or maybe some feelings of hormonal imbalances, these can all feel very manageable, but over time these issues start to snowball. Brain fog might start as just forgetting where you put your keys, but it can escalate into difficulty concentrating and further memory lapses, and just being very frustrated with everyday tasks and being able to be productive at that. Fatigue that feels like a long day catching up with you might become chronic exhaustion, making it hard to function. And these small red flags often turn into bigger, more complex health problems if left unaddressed. The emotional toll of ignoring your health is another cost that's hard to quantify, but it's deeply felt. When you're not feeling your best, it can lead to stress and frustration and even fear about what's happening to your body. This emotional strain doesn't just affect you, it seeps into your relationships, impacting how you show up for the people in your life. Maybe your mood feels a little off, or you're less patient, or more irritable, or you find it hard to engage fully with loved ones. These are the hidden ripple effects of inaction that can harm your connections and support system. And then there are those missed opportunities. Low energy or poor cognitive health don't just affect how you feel, they affect what you can achieve. Whether it's advancing your career or pursuing a passion project or even just spending quality time with your family. These opportunities slip away when you're not operating at your full potential. Your health is the foundation for everything you do, and delaying action on it can rob you of the life you want to live. By addressing these issues now, you can avoid paying the steep price of regret later. The financial cost of delaying health care is staggering, especially when it comes to the long-term implications of chronic illness. Conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular disease, or even neurodegenerative disorders such as dementia, often start with small symptoms that, when ignored, evolve into these major health crises. Managing these chronic illnesses comes with a hefty price tag, expensive medications, frequent doctor visits, and in many cases unnecessary procedures that could have been avoided with earlier intervention. Long-term care, particularly for cognitive decline and dementia, is one of the most significant financial burdens that families face, often draining savings and creating stress for both patients and their loved ones. The difference between preventive care and crisis management is night and day, not just in terms of health outcomes, but also financial impact. Investing in functional lab testing, nutrient-rich foods, or high-quality supplements might seem like a pretty big expense up front, but these small intentional actions can save you from the sky-high costs of treating advanced diseases down the line. Preventive care is an investment in your future, a far better alternative than paying the compounded cost of unmanaged illness. Waiting until a problem becomes a crisis often leaves you with limited, more invasive, and far more expensive options. We are ignoring way too many of our symptoms. We're just putting them off as normal or it's just aging. This is if you're already experiencing things that you're a little concerned about, those are red flags. It's like a warning sign on your car. Take care of this before it becomes a bigger issue. Think about just the cost of one month in an assisted living or nursing home. It can easily run into the thousands. Now consider the price of something like a coronary bypass surgery or even just the long-term use of medications. Many of the newer medications like immunomodulators, which there are so many new immunomodulators on the market, they cost tens of thousands of dollars annually and they target systemic inflammation that has been silently building in the body and mind for years. While insurance may cover some of these expenses, significant copays and deductibles are often left for us to handle, not to mention the rising premiums of our insurances that are burdening us all. Yet so many people look at proactive care and say, it's too expensive. But I'm going to tell you, if you're already having symptoms, you're not even doing proactive care anymore. You're doing more reactive care. We have to get out of the reactive model that healthcare is in today. Our healthcare system is in a crisis. It's unsustainable in its current state. Investing in your health now with a proactive approach isn't just about preventing catastrophic costs later. It's about reclaiming your quality of life before it's too late. And here's the truth: if you're already experiencing those symptoms, or if you're seeing changes in your labs, even if your labs are normal, that can signify there can already be dysfunction happening in the body. If your labs are not being compared to optimal physiologic levels, you could already be developing dysfunction. Symptoms are your body's way of waving a red flag, yet so many people ignore them, staying in denial about that brewing disease process. But let's face it, if you're already dealing with symptoms or lab abnormalities or non-optimal labs, you're already in a reactive stance. The time for prevention has passed. Now it's about addressing the dysfunction head on before it worsens. It's incredibly challenging to convince people to be proactive with their health because honestly, not many people are proactive anymore. By the time most people seek help, they're already experiencing significant issues that require reactive care. But ignoring symptoms or pushing them aside doesn't make them go away. It allows the dysfunction to grow until it's harder, it's more expensive, and more time consuming to fix. If you already need to be reactive, the best time to take action is now. The longer you wait, the higher the cost, in every sense of the word. Delaying health doesn't just affect your wallet. It impacts your ability to earn and thrive in your career. Poor health often leads to absenteeism, burnout, and a reduced focus at work, which can significantly hinder your productivity and potential for growth. Whether it's missed days due to illness or the lack of energy to excel, the cost of lost productivity cannot be underestimated. Taking care of your health now is not just about avoiding future expenses. It's about maintaining your capacity to live a life full of opportunity and success. Your health is your greatest asset. Don't let inaction deplete it. Cognitive decline doesn't happen overnight. It begins decades before symptoms like memory lapses or confusion show up. Early intervention is critical because once these symptoms appear, much of the damage is already underway. By the time people notice significant cognitive changes, the brain has already been dealing with inflammation, oxidative stress, or nutrient deficiencies for years. Waiting too long to act can make recovery much more difficult. For example, someone experiencing early signs of brain fog or just a little bit of forgetfulness might dismiss it as I'm just stressed or it's just aging, but left unaddressed, these issues can progress into more serious conditions like mild cognitive impairment or even dementia. The same goes for chronic diseases. Conditions like high blood sugar, systemic inflammation, and thyroid dysfunction might start with minor manageable symptoms, but if they're ignored, these can lead to serious health crises later. Elevated blood sugar levels, for instance, can quietly cause damage to blood vessels and nerves. They increase our risk of diabetes, heart disease, and even cognitive decline. Similarly, when we take chronic inflammation, it's often fueled by stress or a poor diet. This can wreak havoc throughout the body, contributing to autoimmune conditions and joint pain and even cancer. These problems don't just appear, they build over time due to inaction. Delaying action also accelerates the aging process, both physically and mentally. When we ignore the signs of wear and tear on our bodies, the result is often a loss of vitality. Inaction allows preventable damage to accumulate, leaving us feeling older and less energized and less capable than we should be. Whether it's cognitive fog, joint stiffness, or loss of muscle mass, these issues sap us of our potential and quality of life. Acting early doesn't just preserve your health, it keeps you feeling younger and more vibrant for years to come. Your vitality is worth protecting, and the best time to start is now. When we neglect our health, the effects ripple far beyond ourselves. It impacts the people who care about us most. Poor health can become a significant burden on loved ones, often forcing them into caregiving roles that may not be emotionally, physically, or financially prepared for. Whether it's assisting with daily tasks or managing medications or making difficult medical decisions, the strain on family members is undeniable. Financially, the costs of long-term care and treatments and lost income quickly overwhelm a family, creating stress and tension in relationships. What starts as one person's health issue can snowball into a shared challenge that impacts everyone's quality of life. Beyond the immediate burden, inaction on health can also affect future generations. Children and loved ones often model the behaviors they see, and neglecting your health can set a precedence that prioritizes convenience or avoidance over proactive care. Conversely, taking charge of your wellness can inspire those around you to do the same. By showing your family the value of prioritizing nutrition and movement and stress management and preventive care, you're not just improving your own health, you're helping to break the cycle and build a legacy of healthier habits for generations to come. Your actions today can empower your family to make choices that lead to vitality, longevity, and a higher quality of life for everyone. The power of early action lies in its simplicity and effectiveness. Small steps taken today, like improving your diet and managing your stress and starting a personalized supplement regimen can compound over time into exponential benefits for your health. Adjusting your eating habits to include nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory foods, might seem like a minor change, but it can have a profound impact on everything from brain health to hormone balance. Similarly, incorporating daily stress reduction techniques like mindfulness or even just deep breathing can protect your nervous system and lower chronic inflammation, which are key factors in preventing disease. These small consistent steps are the foundation of lasting health and vitality. There's a world of difference between proactive and reactive health. When you're proactive, you're in control. You're preventing problems before they start and building resilience in your body and mind. By waiting until your symptoms appear, often this leads you playing catch-up, dealing with more invasive treatments and a longer path to recovery. Reactive health is about crisis management. Proactive health is about creating a future where those crises are less likely to happen. By taking charge of your health now, you're not just avoiding the fallout later. You're ensuring that you have the energy, clarity, and freedom to live life on your terms. One of the most inspiring examples of early action comes from a client who was experiencing early signs of cognitive decline, such as brain fog and memory lapses. Instead of waiting for these symptoms to worsen, this person chose to dive into a comprehensive wellness program. And by optimizing nutrition and addressing hormone imbalances and improving gut health, they saw profound improvements in just a few months. Not only did their cognitive function return to normal, but they also reported feeling more energetic and emotionally balanced than they had in years. This story is a powerful reminder that early action doesn't just prevent health crises, it can transform your life in ways you never imagined possible. So let's take some action steps starting today. The first step to taking control of your health is understanding what's really going on inside your body. Functional health testing is an invaluable tool we can use to uncover underlying issues before they spiral into bigger problems. Tests like comprehensive hormone panels, gut microbiome analyses, or micronutrient testing can provide insights that standard lab work often misses. By identifying imbalances early, you can create a personalized plan to address them, empowering you to take targeted action for your long-term health. Once you've gained clarity on your current health status, it's time to prioritize lifestyle medicine. Simple but impactful changes like improving your sleep habits can have a ripple effect on your overall well-being. If we can get a good six to eight hours of quality sleep every night, we can feel so much better. We have to form a calming bedtime routine, minimizing screen time before bedtime, even incorporating daily stress management practices such as mindfulness and deep breathing exercises. These can all help our sleep. It helps our body be protected from the harmful effects of this chronic stress. And we cannot forget about movement. It can just be a walk, like go out in nature, walk outside, get some sunshine on your face, even some just mild weight training, regular restorative activity, being up, walking around, these all support brain health and hormone balance and our energy levels. Investing in your health today, whether it's time, energy, or money, is one of the smartest decisions you can make. Preventive care may require upfront effort, but it pays off exponentially in the long run, sparing you the financial and emotional costs of chronic illness and allowing you to live with vitality and independence. Whether it's seeking professional guidance or prioritizing your nutrition or starting a good supplement regimen, these investments ensure that you're building a strong foundation for the future. The time to act is now. Your future self will thank you for it. The price of inaction is far greater than most people realize. Delaying care and ignoring the warning signs your body is giving you can lead to financial burdens, physical decline, and emotional strain, not just for you, but your loved ones as well. It can be long-term cost of medications, assisted living centers, or even surgeries or procedures that could have been presented. These take a toll on us, and we if we stay in denial about this, it can be such an immense toll. But here's the good news you have the power to change your trajectory. Small, consistent steps taken today can prevent massive consequences tomorrow. Whether it's addressing symptoms you've been ignoring, seeking functional testing, to understand the root causes of your health issues, or simply committing to better nutrition, movement, or distress management, the time to act is now. Your health is your greatest asset. Invest in it before the cost of ignoring it becomes too high. Take these proactive steps today that your future self and your family will thank you for. Because staying in reactive care isn't the answer, and ignoring the problem won't make it go away. It's time to take control, reclaim your health, and create the life you deserve. Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Anchor to Wellness Show. Together, let's anchor ourselves to a life of vibrant well being. Until next time, take care, stay curious, and embrace the journey to holistic vitality. Stay anchored and stay well.
